Laksa King, Revisit

I have posted Laksa King before but this time, I had a different order …

This was the first time I had to travel by car to have lunch on a week (working) day! A colleague of mine, Ms. S., who loves Malaysian food, was keen to go to Laksa King for lunch. Another colleague, Mr. A., offered to drive but was a vegetarian. We were worried about him …

It took awhile to wrestle through the city traffic before our arrival at Laksa King. While deciding on what to order, we had Chinese Tea ($0.5 per person). Most places I’ve been to provide Chinese Tea for free, we were charged here – very Malaysian!

Two items that looked like what we have ordered (photos below) came to our table but was taken away immediately – wrong table!

Ms. S. and I shared two dishes. The fist was my favourite Combination Curry Laksa – mixed noodle with shrimps, fishcake and chicken ($9.2) and as usual, with flat rice noodle. (see my previous post of Laksa King here.)

The second dish I wanted to try was Laksa King‘s Asam Laksa – thick rice vermicelli, cucumber, onion and pineapple in tamarind fish broth ($10.5). I had my first Asam Laksa at Petaling Street (a chain restaurant in Melbourne, not the street at Kuala Lumpur!) and thought it was good. Laksa King‘s Asam Laksa was better, quite close to the Asam Laksa we used to frequent at Penang Road, Penang, Malaysia. I liked the thick fish broth here but it would be better with more minced fish. Also, it would be the best if there was more prawn paste! Actually, I’m not sure if there was any (?)

Mr. A., our vegetarian friend, ordered the Mixed vegetables and bean curd – wok tossed with garlic ($12.8). Being a vegetarian, Mr. A. had a special requests for his dish; that is no garlic please (?). Laksa King‘s chef was able to do some alteration and provided a dish without garlic and with a light clear gravy for taste. This made Mr. A.’s day!

It was another great meal at Laksa King, though it took more than two hours (on a working day)! :)
